There are different models and formats of screens, they vary according to the purpose and how big the image you want to project is.
The most common are 4/3 and 16/9 in different sizes ranging from 2 meters to 10 meters wide by the proportional part of height and depending on the projection format, with the possibility of projecting frontally or also in retro.
The materials used to manufacture projection screens ensure that the light does not bounce so that the image quality is adequate.
The most important values of a projection screen are: gain, brightness and acoustic transparency.
The gain of a screen is a value that defines its performance. When light from the projector reflects off the screen in all directions, the screen is said to have zero gain. By not having gain, the viewing angle is greater and it does not matter where we are located, the quality and brightness levels will be identical.
As the gain is increased, the brightness will be concentrated in the center of the screen and only the viewers facing the screen will appreciate the higher quality and brightness of the image.
If the projector does not have enough light power, a screen with higher gain is better, although this will force us to have the viewers as focused as possible. If on the other hand the projector tributes are good in terms of lumens, then a smaller gain.
The brightness will provide us with the contrast ratio of the image. The correct thing is to achieve the highest possible contrast between the projection screen and the rear wall to guarantee an optimal image.
With regard to acoustic transparency, we must take into account that the screen is transparent to sound, this means that the screen will be micro-perforated to let the sound pass between them.
Finally it is necessary to consider the aspect ratio, the location of the projector and screen.
The aspect ratio of the screen must be 16:9 which is the widescreen format. Regarding the location of the projector and screen, the ideal arrangement is to place the projector on the ceiling, leaving the projector at the height of the upper line of the screen, as reflected in the example image.
